Retirement planning

Build the retirement
you envision.

While everyone has different visions and goals for retirement, planning for it is a responsibility not to be taken lightly.

Social Security is the largest source of income for many elderly Americans, but it was never intended to be the only source of retirement income. Savings, investments, pensions, and retirement accounts can all help support a comfortable retirement. As people live longer, healthier lives, thoughtful financial planning matters more than ever.

Planning vehicle

Fixed index annuities

Fixed index annuities (FIAs) can be a valuable vehicle for retirement savings. They offer protection from market downturns and the guarantees you expect, along with growth opportunity designed to help build retirement savings.

Fixed index annuities may be qualified or non-qualified. Examples of qualified accounts include Traditional IRAs, SEP IRAs, 403(b)s, and 401(k)s.

Choosing the right accumulation vehicle for retirement is important. With many available choices, ask MB & Associates which may be more suitable for you.

Approaching 65?

Medicare has a lot of parts.
You don’t have to sort them alone.

We help you understand the two main ways to receive Medicare coverage, how prescription drug coverage fits in, and where supplemental coverage may help with out-of-pocket costs.

Enrollment

Start with Part A and Part B

If you are close to 65 and are not receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) benefits, you will need to sign up for Medicare. Visit ssa.gov/benefits/medicare to apply for Part A and Part B, or contact Social Security three months before turning 65 to arrange an appointment. If you worked for a railroad, contact the RRB.

If you do not sign up for Part B when first eligible, you may experience a future coverage delay and may have to pay a late-enrollment penalty for as long as you have Part B.

If you already receive Social Security or RRB benefits, Part A and Part B generally begin automatically on the first day of the month you turn 65. If your birthday falls on the first day of the month, coverage starts on the first day of the prior month. People under 65 with a disability generally receive Part A and Part B automatically after receiving qualifying Social Security or RRB disability benefits for 24 months.

Part A

Hospital insurance

Helps cover inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing-facility care, hospice care, and home health care.

Part B

Medical insurance

Helps cover services from doctors and other providers, outpatient care, home health care, durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, and hospital beds, plus many preventive services including screenings, vaccines, and annual wellness visits.

Part D

Drug coverage

Helps cover prescription-drug costs, including many recommended shots or vaccines. Private insurance companies run Part D plans under Medicare rules.

After enrollment

Choose how you receive Medicare coverage

After signing up for Part A and/or Part B, it is time to consider your coverage options. When you first enroll—and during certain times each year—you can choose between two main paths.

Original Medicare

Includes Part A and Part B. You can add a separate Part D drug plan and use any doctor or hospital in the United States that accepts Medicare. To help with out-of-pocket costs such as the 20% coinsurance, you can also purchase Medicare Supplement Insurance, commonly called Medigap.

Medicare Advantage

Also called Part C, Medicare Advantage is a Medicare-approved private-company alternative for health and drug coverage. These bundled plans include Part A, Part B, and usually Part D. Most use provider networks and may require approval before covering certain services or drugs. Plans may offer lower out-of-pocket costs and additional benefits such as vision, hearing, dental, and other services.

Review your coverage each year. You do not need to sign up for Medicare annually, but it is important to check whether your health and drug coverage still meets your needs and decide whether to make a change.

Life insurance

Protection with
living possibilities.

Life insurance products offer a death benefit that is generally free from income taxes.* In addition to death-benefit protection, some products may help address financial needs during retirement through cash-value growth potential that could be used for a tax-free income stream. This concept is developed around universal life products.

Living benefits

Some life-insurance products include living benefits that may allow the owner to accelerate a portion of the death benefit if the insured becomes critically, chronically, or terminally ill, subject to eligibility requirements. These benefits may be included at no additional premium on eligible policies.

Permanent life insurance

Permanent life insurance can help mitigate risks outside your control while supporting a broader financial plan. Consider both adequate death-benefit protection and potential supplemental retirement income for your situation.

Term life insurance

Term life insurance provides short-term protection at an affordable cost when families may need it most. If the unexpected happens, loved ones generally receive income-tax-free funds that can provide financial protection for the future.*

Common questions

A clearer answer
starts here.

Your situation is personal. These are starting points—not a substitute for a one-on-one conversation.

What does “independent” mean?

We focus on your needs and can consider options from a variety of insurance companies instead of representing only one specific carrier.

When should I begin retirement planning?

The best time is before a decision feels urgent. An early conversation gives you more time to understand possible savings and income strategies.

When should I start looking at Medicare?

Many people begin learning about enrollment and coverage options in the months before turning 65. Timing can vary, especially if you have employer coverage or already receive certain benefits.

How often should I review my coverage?

Review coverage when your family, health, work, finances, or goals change—and check Medicare health and drug coverage each year to ensure it still fits.
